Techopedia Explains Backup Manager

A backup manager is primarily a type of backup software that is designed specifically for enterprise data backup solutions. An enterprise class backup manager software/solution is generally made up of a backup client and backup server-side applications. The backup client applications are installed on each of the local computers/servers that require backup and provides data duplication, compression and other client-end backup operations. The backup server is where the backup will be stored.

The backup manager then enables backup data from the client-end devices to be sent/uploaded on to the backup server based on a predefined schedule or manually. It also provides the ability to select the backup process, be it incremental, differential, complete or mirrored. Moreover, the backup manager ensures that the backup data from the client to server, and vice versa, is error free, secure and supports disaster recovery operations.
