What Does ASCII Art Mean?

ASCII art refers to images that are created using the ASCII text characters. The images are created by either converting an existing image to ASCII characters by hand or starting from scratch and using the characters to create a decent approximation of something. ASCII art runs the range from very basic to photo realistic as more characters are used to create the image.

ASCII art is very similar to emotions in that they can be used to inject a little fun into a message or document. The more detailed ASCII art renders famous people, landscapes and so on into ASCII with stunning accuracy. ASCII art can be used in emails, web pages, documents – basically anywhere you can input ASCII characters.
