Techopedia Explains Application-Aware Storage

Application-aware storage primarily uses machine learning capabilities to understand how a specific application uses the base storage. To achieve this, application-aware storage requires close integration and collaboration between the operating system and all storage interfaces. The data collected/evaluated by an application-aware storage system/medium is used to improve storage allocation, utilization, disk caching, optimization and overall quality of service. For example, a virtualization application-aware storage technology will enable the monitoring, management and optimization of storage operations within a virtualization environment and/or for all virtual machines.
