Techopedia Explains Amazon Whispernet

If enabled on the Kindle device, Amazon Whispernet allows Kindle users to connect to Amazon’s website to purchase books, download content, etc. To avail of the service, however, Kindle users need to be in AT&T’s coverage area.

In addition to Whispernet, Amazon also provides Whispersync and Whispercast. The former is a bookmarking solution that allows books and other contents to be synced between different devices automatically. Whispercast is similar to Whispersync but is intended for corporate users.
